Age Regression Hypnotherapy · New York

The reaction arrives before you do.

Something is said in a meeting and the response is already underway — the tightening, the withdrawal, the flat competent voice that comes out instead of the one you meant to use. By the time you have assessed whether the moment warranted any of it, you are several minutes past the decision point.

In certain situations you become much younger. Not as an idea about yourself. As a state. It arrives fast and complete, and it does not consult the twenty years of professional authority standing in the room with you.

You are not short on insight about this. You know the pattern, you can usually name the history behind it, and you have likely explained it out loud to someone qualified more than once.

You can know exactly where a reaction comes from and still find yourself having it. Age regression hypnotherapy is a way of working with that gap experientially rather than analytically.

Some of what governs you in a room is not a judgment you make there. It operates more like a standing rule — one you never adopted deliberately and would not defend if someone asked you to justify it.

You may recognise some of these. Not as positions you hold, but as things already in motion before position enters into it.

  • Do not appear to need anything.
  • Read the room before you commit to a view.
  • Stay ahead of it. Do not be the one caught unprepared.
  • Do not let it show that it landed.
  • Hold something in reserve.
  • Leave before you can be asked to leave.

You may have a clear sense of where some of these came from. Others simply feel like how you operate, with nothing attached to them. Working with what happens now does not require either of us to settle in advance where it started.

What is usually locatable is when it engages. The silence after you have said something and cannot read how it was taken. The two minutes before a difficult conversation you have already rehearsed four times. The email you read three times looking for a tone that may not be in it.

Nothing here involves reliving anything. It is worth stating first, because it is the assumption most people arrive with and it ends the conversation before it has started.

You do not go under and you are not moved backward through difficult material with no say in it. You remain aware throughout — able to speak, to describe what is happening while it is happening, to pause, to stop. What the hypnotic process offers is a focused way to stay with the feelings, associations, images or recollections connected to what you came in with, rather than moving immediately to explaining them, which is the move you are already very good at.

You do not need to arrive with a clear memory. That matters, because the absence of one is what convinces many people they are not candidates for this. What registers may not be a memory you could recount to anyone.

A feeling in the chest arriving whole, with no story attached.

Certainty about something, arriving with nothing behind it.

An impression of a room — its quiet, who was in it, how it was to be there.

Something the body does before you have registered why.

You remain aware for all of it.

None of this requires
giving up control.

We start with what is happening now. The reaction, the relationship dynamic, the shutdown, the vigilance — whatever keeps repeating. Where it shows up, who is generally present, what happens in the body immediately before it takes over.

In hypnosis I guide you to stay with that experience rather than analysing it, which is the part you have already done thoroughly and at expense. You may notice emotion, physical sensation, association, imagery, thought, or memory. Sometimes something earlier becomes relevant and the session goes there. Sometimes it stays entirely in the present and is no less useful for that.

When earlier material does arise, we can look at what you needed then, what you concluded, what you decided was not available — and how you relate to that now, at this distance, with everything you have since built.

Sessions are conducted privately by Zoom, which for most people in New York removes the least useful part of the process — the part that involves crossing the city twice around a workday. A written summary follows afterward, so you can return to the main points without relying on memory alone.

You may already be in therapy, or coaching, or somatic work. You may have been for years, with someone competent, and got real value from it. That is worth saying because it is usually true of the people who end up here.

And there may still be moments where the reaction arrives faster, or harder, than you would choose. You can trace precisely where the vigilance came from, describe the household it was learned in, name the year — and still find yourself scanning a room on a Thursday afternoon before anything has actually happened in it.

Age regression offers an experiential route into those moments. It does not require you to discard what you already understand, or to treat the prior work as though it failed. The method page covers how the work is structured, if you want that before anything else.

Age regression sits within the Transpersonal category of this practice. It can be a gateway into container work: the consultation clarifies what keeps repeating and whether an assessment is the appropriate next step. The routes below help orient the discussion; you do not need to choose one before we speak.

When you know the history

If you remember the early years clearly and are still driven by what they produced, that connects to childhood trauma and early conditioning.

When the history is not available to you

If you have the sense that something belongs to early years you cannot bring into focus, that is covered in childhood trauma you don't remember.

When the question is explicitly transpersonal

If what you want to examine is spiritual in nature — past-life or interlife material, or something encountered in another practice — that belongs within transpersonal hypnotherapy.

If the question concerns a specific period or something you cannot retrieve, hypnosis for memory retrieval approaches it from a different angle. For the full scope of what this practice addresses, see hypnotherapy services in New York.

Age regression is not the right starting point for every person or every question, and that is worth establishing before you decide rather than discovering afterward.

This work asks for the stability to engage focused experiential work. It is not appropriate during active clinical crisis, with untreated severe psychiatric conditions, or with active addiction that has not been stabilised first. If that is where you are, this is not the right starting point, and I will say so rather than take a booking.

Write a short private note about the reaction you keep running into — as you would describe it, not as you would present it. Sending it commits you to nothing.

The consultation is a 30-minute conversation before any working session is booked. We go over what keeps happening, what you have already tried, and whether this is the right kind of session for what you want addressed. There is no pressure in either direction.

You do not need a clear memory, a complete history, or a working theory about your own childhood to begin. You need one reaction that keeps arriving, and a willingness to approach it from somewhere other than analysis.
